WordPress have announced that they are working on a new editor called Gutenberg to replace the current built-in editor Tiny MCE.
This will probably be fully installed possibly by 2018. Until then they are producing a Beta plug-in version virtually weekly for people to get used to the new editor. They recommend creating a WordPress installation just to practice on rather than using it on a production installation.
